Heavy and solid. Somewhat rawIt's very thick, solid, heavy wood, and well built. The only criticisms I have are that the top is very, very rough, so if you want to keep it clean, you may end up varnishing it. There is a chemical/preservative smell from the finish at first, but within 18 hours it seems to have finished off-gassing.
