Customer reviewsInteresting, but some issues
I have some mixed feelings about this product, honestly. I think they do seem to be doing the right thing, in that they are using high-quality ingredients in their food. I have this new thing where I have been testing out freeze-dried, dehydrated and fresh home delivery dog food as toppers for my dog s regular high quality, no-grain dry food. As part of this test, I also eat the dog food. You might think this is gross, but most of this is supposed to be human quality food, and I m not going to feed my dog something if I don t know what it tastes like. This stuff actually tastes quite natural and unprocessed. If you look at the ingredients, you could actually make it yourself It s mostly flax and dehydrated veggies with dried chicken meat. That being said, none of the ingredients are cheap, and it would probably cost you the same amount just to make it up yourself Plus, you would have to add the vitamins and other nutrients they supplement with. When you add water, you get more of a slurry than you do with other dehydrated foods, which rehydrate like chunks of food. On the one hand, that is kind of cool that it is not processed much but on the other, I have noticed concerns about this idea that these unprocessed foods are poorly absorbed see other reviews . In my dog s poop, you can see the grains and pieces afterwards. My other problem with this brand is that garlic is one of the top 10 ingredients. This is a controversial ingredient in dog food, since some dogs have a sensitivity to allicin The compound in the onion family that can cause kidney problems in dogs . I m not that concerned about it in this product, because the concentration is probably not that high. However, for regular use, these two factors make me feel like I might go with other dried dog food brands. Pity because I think they really do live up to the artisan kind of brand they are trying to project, and I do believe that the dried USDA chicken is high quality. I will finish out the bag and then probably not buy it again.
